Samsung’s Galaxy S III Ads Show Phone’s Strengths (And the Weakness of Those Strengths)

Samsung has released a bunch of new ads for its flagship Galaxy S III smartphones.

Understandably, the commercials play up one of the phone’s strong areas — its sharing abilities. Indeed, the Galaxy S III has a host of features designed to seamlessly share photos and other content.

One of the commercials shows a group of people taking picture after picture with different phones and cameras, a familiar scenario these days. By contrast, a second group of Galaxy S III owners takes one shot that instantly appears on all of their phones.

But that’s also the problem: The photo-sharing feature, like other of the Galaxy S III’s key sharing abilities, only works if all parties involved have a Galaxy S III.

And while the Galaxy S III will be offered at all the major phone carriers (and some of the Tier 2 players), it’s not like one is likely to have a circle of friends that don’t include any iPhones — or other Android devices.
