EMC Corp. executive Pat Gelsinger will replace Paul Maritz as chief executive of VMware Inc., people familiar with the matter said, a move that will give the EMC executive experience running a major company.
Mr. Maritz, meanwhile, will become vice chairman at EMC, one of the people said. EMC Chief Executive Joe Tucci will remain in his job at the top of the data center giant, the person said. The two companies are linked via EMC’s majority stake in VMware.
