So, That “Something Amazing” Coming to Nokia? It’s a Helsinki Store Remodel.

Earlier this week, some interesting signage appeared outside Nokia’s flagship store in Helsinki, promising that “something amazing” will occur there on Sept. 7. “Start the adventure now” … “prepare to be amazed at all the new things in your Nokia store,” the messaging reads.

Understandably, this is causing all manner of speculation. Nokia World occurs on Sept. 5 and 6 this year, and some observers are theorizing that the “amazing” thing that is to occur at the Helsinki store on Sept. 7 will be the debut of some fantastic new devices.

Well, that’s not the case. Reached for comment, a Nokia spokesperson told AllThingsD that the signage is simply promoting a big retail remodel. Said Nokia spokesman Keith Nowak, “That store is undergoing some scheduled summer maintenance/renovation and will reopen on September 7. This has been made into a lot more than it is.”

Just as the atom bomb was the weapon that was supposed to render war obsolete, the Internet seems like capitalism’s ultimate feat of self-destructive genius, an economic doomsday device rendering it impossible for anyone to ever make a profit off anything again. It’s especially hopeless for those whose work is easily digitized and accessed free of charge.
