Rally Software Acquires Frequent Partner Agile Advantage

There’s been a lot of angling by various companies in recent months around software development. Lots of start-ups are getting funding, the most interesting of which was the $100 million investment by Andreessen Horowitz in GitHub, and another investment, not quite so large, in a GitHub cousin called Sonatype. You might have thought someone said that software was eating the world or something.

Within software, there’s a style of management known as “agile development” that has gotten pretty popular. It focuses on being fast, and iterating versions of an application as you go along. And one of the companies known for agile-style development tools is Rally Software.

It has raised a lot of funding over the years, most recently a $20 million round led by Meritech Capital Partners, announced last June. And the year before that, it raised $16 million in a round led by Greylock Partners.

Today, Rally said it will acquire Agile Advantage, one of its primary partners. Financial terms aren’t being disclosed, but the move brings a few key scheduling and cost-management features to one of Rally’s main products, Rally Portfolio Enabler.

Rally has a lot of customers, including Oracle, eBay, BMC Software and Intel in the tech space; Disney and McGraw-Hill in the media segment; and McKesson, a big name in the health-care world. The company says its products are in use by about 150,000 people around the world.
