Guess That Means a BlackBerry 10 License Is Out of the Question, Then, Eh?

In the smartphone wars, Nokia has cast its lot with Microsoft’s Windows Phone OS, and its commitment to the platform is unwavering.

That’s the word from Nokia CEO Stephen Elop, who is confident that the struggling handset maker won’t have to avail itself of the contingency plan it has reportedly put in place should Windows Phone 8 fail to live up to expectations.

“In today’s war … [between] Android, Apple and Windows, we are very clear, we are fighting that with Windows Phone,” Elop told reporters in Oslo. “I don’t think about rewinding the clock.”

That’s as definitive a pronouncement as they come. Axiomatic, too.

Having leaped from one burning smartphone platform already, Nokia is clearly in no hurry to do so a second time. It has bet the farm on Windows Phone, and there’s no turning back now. I’m not sure Elop could rewind the clock even if he wanted to.

Nokia is expected to uncrate its new Windows Phone 8 handsets alongside Microsoft at a Sept. 5 event in New York City.
