Not Wanting to Be Left Out, HTC Schedules September 19 Event in New York

While Apple’s Sept. 12 event is the most eagerly anticipated of the fall mobile product launches, it won’t be the last of them.

HTC on Monday sent out a note for a Sept. 19 event in New York to show off whatever it has been cooking up following the debut of the One series earlier this year.

While Nokia, Samsung, Amazon and Motorola all scheduled events to get out ahead of Apple, HTC is apparently okay with following the Cupertino folks.

HTC is certainly in need of a hit. After a strong couple of years, the Taiwanese phone maker has been struggling in recent quarters due to the strength of larger rivals, particularly Samsung.

The company has said that it planned to focus more effort on fewer devices this year, but that approach has yet to result in a financial turnaround.

HTC gave little hint as to what its new product or products will be. As has become standard (but perhaps a bit played out at this point), HTC sent a vague invite with a pretty picture but no details.

Another gadget you don’t really need. Will not work once you get it home. New model out in 4 weeks. Battery life is too short to be of any use.
