RIM: Sorry About That BlackBerry Outage

Research In Motion’s stock is plumbing the depths today after a three-hour BlackBerry service outage that affected users in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Shares tumbled over 6 percent to $6.46 following the misstep, which impacted about 6 percent of RIM’s BlackBerry user base. “I want to apologize to those BlackBerry customers in Europe and Africa who experienced an impact in their quality of service earlier this morning,” RIM CEO Thorsten Heins said in a statement on the outage. “The BlackBerry service is now fully restored and I can report that no data or messages were lost.”
