Google Play’s 675,000 Apps Have Been Downloaded 25 Billion Times

Google Play, a.k.a. the marketplace for Android apps, said today that it has hit 25 billion total downloads.

Which means it’s time for an almost nearly actually genuine apples-to-apples comparison! Or at least as good as we’re going to get in the tightly controlled world of competitive milestones. (With no bias toward any particular sort of fruit — promise.)

Apple’s App Store hit the same 25 billion milestone, with much fanfare, in March of this year.

Google Play now has 675,000 apps and games, which is remarkably similar to Apple’s recently announced milestone of 700,000 apps.

Google said earlier this month that there have been about 500 million total activated Android devices, and Apple counted 400 million iOS devices sold as of June — a number that’s not standing still.

Google told us that to celebrate the 25 billion milestone it will be offering 25-cent featured apps and other discounts on movies, books, albums and magazines for the next five days.
