AT&T, James Bond to Carry Sony Xperia TL Smartphone

What kind of cellphone does James Bond carry? A Sony Xperia TL, apparently.

AT&T announced today that it is adding to its lineup the Xperia TL, an Android 4G LTE smartphone, and that the device will make a cameo appearance in the upcoming James Bond movie, “Skyfall.”

Focusing on its entertainment and multimedia features, Sony and AT&T are touting the Xperia TL’s 13-megapixel camera with its quick launch feature. According to Sony, the camera can awaken from standby mode in just 1.5 seconds so you never miss a moment, and both the rear and front-facing cameras can shoot HD video.

The smartphone also comes preloaded with an Album app where you can find more than 25 editing options and pin any geo-tagged photos onto a traditional or satellite map view. Since the Xperia TL features near field communication (NFC) technology, you can also wirelessly share photos, as well as music, with other NFC-enabled devices simply by touching them together.

The Xperia TL might be cool enough for 007 (and certainly not just because the film is backed by Sony Pictures), but it will still have to do battle with the iPhone 5 and upcoming Nokia Lumia 920, both of which have high-end cameras with advanced features.

In addition to the camera, the Xperia TL offers a 4.6-inch HD touchscreen with 1,080 x 720 pixel resolution and ships with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. It will be upgradeable to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean following its launch.

Sony and AT&T did not reveal an availability date at this time.
