Handwriting Recognition Firm Vision Objects Inks Deal with Samsung, Updates iPad App

Vision Objects, whose handwriting recognition technology is used on a variety of devices, said Thursday that it is working with Samsung to power the Galaxy Note line of products.

Its technology is built into the input panel and the S-note application of the Galaxy Note, Galaxy Note II and Galaxy Note 10.1, with further collaboration possible.

“Our partnership with Samsung is a great step forward in showing the industry that smartphones and tablets can be used for content creation and not solely for media consumption,” Vision Objects CEO Stefan Knerr said in a statement. “The tablet market is driven by mobility needs — but until now tablets have been used to access information, not create it.”

Vision Objects also said it is releasing an updated version of its iPad app that adds support for “smart note taking” in which handwritten words are converted to searchable text. It also announced it will offer cloud-based services that will allow other developers to build handwriting recognition abilities into their own apps.
