Corning Not Monkeying Around as Gorilla Glass Now on One Billion Devices

Glass maker Corning said Wednesday that its Gorilla Glass line has now served to cover more than one billion devices.

Gorilla Glass is in use by 33 major brands, and generated $363 million in revenue for Corning in its just-reported quarter, up 21 percent so far this year. The company said it sees the cover glass becoming a billion-dollar-per-year business.

Earlier this year, Corning announced Gorilla Glass 2, an updated version of the cover glass.

The company is also working on another display technology — Willow Glass — that it says will pave the way for better curved displays. Willow Glass, which is used inside a display, rather than as a cover, could start showing up in smartphones and tablets next year.
