Empty New York

There’s not a lot of evidence of Hurricane Sandy in New York City just yet — though if you look hard enough, you’ll see some disturbing signs.

The storm is supposed to start hitting the city overnight, peak Monday night, and continue through Tuesday.

Meantime, the most obvious effect is that almost everyone has gone home. So a city that thrives on density is now full of empty space.

New York’s Metropolitan Transit Authority, which runs the city’s subway system and other transportation lines throughout the state, shut everything down Sunday evening.
