Robert Downey Jr. Reports for Duty to Help Activision Sell More Black Ops II (Video)

Activision’s Call of Duty videogame franchise is often compared to some of the biggest hits in Hollywood. For instance, its last release, Modern Warfare 3, surpassed $1 billion in sales faster than the blockbuster movie “Avatar.”

And generally it does this without the help of celebrities. But here’s one exception: The videogame’s trailer, which started appearing tonight during Monday Night Football, features cameo appearances from Robert Downey Jr. and French comedian Omar Sy. In the 60-second clip, titled “Surprise,” the actors appear as though they are playing in the game. Of course, the emphasis of Call of Duty is on blowing people to smithereens, but the lines are pretty funny. Downey, for instance, says with Iron-Man-like delivery: “Guess who brought a jet to a gunfight?”

The grenade-packing, bomb-dropping action was directed by Guy Ritchie (a.k.a. Madonna’s ex-husband). Can’t get more mainstream than that, right? That’s exactly what Activision is hoping for, since it wants to deliver another megahit for investors. Call of Duty: Black Ops II costs $60, and will come out Nov. 13.
