Samsung Sells Three Million Galaxy Note II “Phablets” in Just Over a Month

Samsung is making note of early Galaxy Note II sales — and they’re surprisingly good.

The Korean electronics giant said earlier today that it has sold more than three million Galaxy Note II “phablets” since the device first went on sale overseas 37 days ago.

The Galaxy Note II is the company’s second-generation sandwich-sized smartphone, measuring six inches by three inches, with a 5.5-inch display.

It was first released in South Korea in September, and came to the U.S. market and other countries in October. It’s running on a new Google Android operating system, Jelly Bean 4.1 and, as I noted in my recent review, despite it’s sometimes-awkward size, it’s a well-made phone.

The first Galaxy Note, launched in the U.S. in February 2012, was greeted with some raised eyebrows due to its size (AllThingsD’s Walt Mossberg called it “positively gargantuan”). Despite that, 10 million of those devices have sold worldwide.

Samsung’s Note II sales numbers still fall short of Apple’s first-weekend iPhone 5 sales numbers, which topped five million.
