And We Can Now Call the Election for … “The Daily Show”

CNN’s John King may have taken the early lead on election night with his use of the Perceptive Pixel touchscreen, but “The Daily Show” was not to be outdone.

Skewering its mainstream media competition, correspondent John Oliver helped kick off the show’s coverage, appearing with an iPad strapped to each arm while pointing at several other flatscreen displays.

From there, he read an “actual tweet” from an “actual person” who said they voted for Mitt Romney. And, if that tweet was representative of all Americans, then, he concluded, clearly Romney would win.

“That just happened, moments ago and I’m explaining it to you now in real time,” Oliver told host Jon Stewart, before moving the tweet to a larger screen. “There is no denying that tweet is now physically bigger.”

He then took a picture of himself, posted it to Instagram and to the show’s Tumblr page.

“Don’t tell me cable news is not alive and kicking,” he said.

I think the NSA has a job to do and we need the NSA. But as (physicist) Robert Oppenheimer said, “When you see something that is technically sweet, you go ahead and do it and argue about what to do about it only after you’ve had your technical success. That is the way it was with the atomic bomb.”
