Did This Clock Cost Apple $21 Million?

The newest iPad software gives users a free clock app. But it may have cost Apple millions.

According to a Swiss news report, Apple is paying out $21 million to settle a copyright dispute with SBB, the Swiss railway operator that owns the design for this iconic station clock.

That same design appeared to show up, uncredited, in the new iPad app that Apple rolled out in its iOS 6 software in September.

Last month SBB announced it had reached a licensing deal that would allow Apple to use the design in iPads and iPhones, but didn’t disclose any details.

We’ve asked Apple for comment.
