Expect BlackBerry 10 Devices to Start Shipping in February
Research In Motion will officially launch its first BlackBerry 10 devices on Jan. 30, 2013. But it won’t begin shipping them until the following the month.
In an interview with Reuters, RIM COO Kristian Tear said handsets running the company’s new make-or-break OS will arrive at market “not too long after” their unveiling.
In a separate interview with Bloomberg, Tear was a bit more specific, saying new BlackBerry 10 devices will begin shipping within 30 days of the Jan. 30 event.
That’s a fairly large window, leaving RIM enough room to move BB10’s street date closer to March, something we heard last month might be a possibility. Still, Tear says RIM is pushing to get its new smartphone portfolio out the door.
“We’re working hard right now to make sure all the bits and pieces and all the details are in place for the date, when the devices will be available for consumers and enterprises,” Tear told Reuters in an interview. “We have to agree with carriers as well on what they want to announce when, so it’s not absolutely to our own discretion.”
