Boom Boom What Now? Will.i.am to Launch iPhone Camera Accessory.
Is there anything Will.i.am won’t do?
The Black Eyed Peas frontman has already shown up as a hologram on CNN, accepted a role at Intel as director of creative innovation, and claimed the title of being the first musician to stream a song from Mars. Now he’s making tech products.
According to the Telegraph, Will.i.am has plans to launch a new iPhone accessory called i.am+ that turns the smartphone’s eight-megapixel camera into a 14-megapixel camera.
The add-on accessory has its own sensor and flash, which the musician claims will improve the clarity and definition of photos, and will turn your smartphone into a “genius-phone.”
But more megapixels doesn’t always mean better pictures, and without any details about the technology behind the camera attachment, it’s hard to say whether it’s legit or just hype (which is kind of how I feel about the Black Eyed Peas — zing!).
Either way, you might be hearing more of Will.i.am’s name in the consumer tech space, as this doesn’t appear to be a one-off venture for the musician. Will.i.am, whose real name is William James Adams, says this is just the first in a line of i.am+ products. He will officially launch the series, along with pricing, in London on Nov. 28.
The Telegraph reports that Apple has granted i.am+ a development license to produce and sell the accessory and an accompanying camera app. Apple has not yet responded to a request for comment.
