The Nothing Option Selected at Groupon Board Meeting

Groupon’s board meeting today turned out to be short on action, despite a clearly growing rift between company co-founder Andrew Mason and a number of directors.

In other words, Andrew Mason is keeping the CEO job — for now, anyway.

Groupon spokesman Paul Taaffe told AllThingsD that today’s meeting concluded without incident, there was no change of leadership — i.e. replacing Mason — and that it’s business as usual. Mason’s performance, though, was a topic at the gathering.

Nonetheless, Taaffe said exactly nothing, too: “The board and management team are focused on the performance of the company and they are all working together with heads down to achieve Groupon’s objectives.”

Which is what he had to say, since there was nothing to say. More to come on exactly what nothing means.

There was a worry before I started this that I was going to burn every bridge I had. But I realize now that there are some bridges that are worth burning.
