CollegeHumor Pokes Fun at Your Terrible Instagram Shots

Of course your personal portfolio of washed-out, sepia-toned Instagram pictures is unique. You’ve got an eye for the art form.

Yeah, right. Just like everyone else.

Parody masters CollegeHumor put up a video on Tuesday morning skewering the common practices of Instagram users across the world. It’s hilarious and spreading across social channels fast.

And if my feed of Instagram friends is any indicator, the video has it right on. Pictures of “lemon tarts and lattes as art” populate my stream, much like any other user on the network. It’s a similar refrain from the early days of Twitter, when the service was best known as a time-waster, a method of “letting your friends know what you had for breakfast.”

My personal favorite part: Where the smartphone photographer misses the first steps of his toddler in order to brush out the red-eye in a shot.

Why does it work so well? Because the best jokes always have an element of truth to them.

Now excuse me while I photograph my lunch.

The best and brightest are usually put to work on optimisation. … They will then go forward and solve the inefficiencies, and that’s where 99% of most energy is spent on. But, at some point you run out of room to improve things, and that’s when you have to step aside and ask, can we make it different?
