What Comes After Cut the Rope? Pudding Monsters.

ZeptoLab, the company behind the hit mobile game Cut the Rope, plans to release its follow-up, Pudding Monsters, on Dec. 20.

The concept of the new game is for blobs of pudding to “find the evil man that steals their friends, by sticking together,” said ZeptoLab CEO Misha Lyalin, speaking at LeWeb in Paris today, where he dressed in an enormous red velcro pudding-blob suit.

Pudding Labs is to be available for iPhone, iPad and Android. There’s a bit more information, including a preview video, here.

Cut the Rope is a legit hit. It has been downloaded 250 million times over the past two years, currently has 50 million active players, sells all sorts of merchandise around its main character, “Om Nom,” and is being made into a live-action game show by Sony Pictures Television.

Lyalin was cautiously optimistic about Pudding Monsters, saying that its graphics and game design are more advanced. Still, he warned, “We may never do another Cut the Rope, but we want to make games that people want to play.” He did admit that Pudding Monsters has no central character, which could limit its merchandising potential.
