Confirmed: Effective Immediately, Say Goodbye to Instagram Photos Inside of Twitter

Instagram completely turned off support for Twitter Cards technology on Sunday, a Facebook spokesperson confirmed to AllThingsD.

While users can still post links to their Instagram photos on Twitter, they’ll no longer be able to view Instagram photos from within the Twitter stream across both the Twitter Web site and mobile apps.

Twitter Cards is the microblogging service’s push into creating a more media-centric experience for users. It allows publishers and third-party applications to display photos, video and article text inside of tweets, rather than only sharing links inside of tweets.

As I reported earlier, Twitter hopes to introduce its own photo filters inside the Twitter app before the end of the year.

Twitter posted a separate confirmation to its status blog on Sunday afternoon.

“Instagram has disabled photo integration with Twitter. As a result, photos are no longer appearing in Tweets or user photo galleries. While tweeting links to Instagram photos is still possible, you can no longer view the photos on Twitter, as was previously the case.”

Just as the atom bomb was the weapon that was supposed to render war obsolete, the Internet seems like capitalism’s ultimate feat of self-destructive genius, an economic doomsday device rendering it impossible for anyone to ever make a profit off anything again. It’s especially hopeless for those whose work is easily digitized and accessed free of charge.
