Popular Photo Message App Snapchat Adds Video
One nifty aspect of the app design is that Snapchat uses the same capture screen for both photos and videos. So users can tap to take a photo and press and hold to take a video.
The Los Angeles-based company, which is in the middle of a closely watched funding round, said its users now send more than 50 million “snaps” per day.
Here’s a video interview with Snapchat founder Evan Spiegel, who was to have participated in our Dive Into Mobile conference in October. At the time, those users — who tend to be teens — were sending 20 million snaps per day.
Spiegel argues that because Snapchat content expires, people who use the app can be less self-conscious about sharing images of themselves. He said this week that that idea extends to video, a medium that makes even the smoothest people feel awkward.
