AT&T: Hey, Check Out All the Smartphones We Sold

ATT_prometheusFor AT&T, the fourth quarter was a particularly successful one.

The carrier said Tuesday that it sold a record number of smartphones during the period — more than 10 million. That’s a big number — well above the previous record of 9.4 million smartphones sold in the same quarter in 2011, and far more than the 6.1 million it sold in the quarter prior.

The engine of this growth? “The best-ever quarterly sales of Android and Apple smartphones.” According to AT&T Mobility chief Ralph de la Vega, the company averaged daily sales of more than 110,000 smartphones. Good news for AT&T, and a hint of what to expect when it next reports earnings after market close on Jan. 24.
