Design Firm Zurb Acquires Forrst, a Community Site for Creatives
Zurb, the Campbell, Calif.-based interaction design company, announced it had acquired Forrst on Thursday, a community-oriented site where designers can share work and suggest improvements to one another.
If this sounds familiar, it’s because this is not Forrst’s first time up on the block. ColorLovers, another design community, acquired Forrst just nine months ago, but decided to sell off the company again as it wasn’t a particularly good fit between the two.
Zurb, then, aims to do with Forrst what ColorLovers apparently couldn’t — improving the site’s design, growing the community of designers and making collaboration between members easier, thereby stimulating overall growth. An ambitious task, and not as easy as it sounds.
There’s also existing competition in the space that Zurb will have to deal with; namely Dribble Dribbble and Behance, two established design community sites focused on creative collaboration.
The terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Forrst had previously raised $205,000 in seed funding back in 2010, taking cash from angels like Dave McClure’s 500 Startups, Gary & AJ Vaynerchuk, Adam Schwartz and Jim Sokoloff.
