Apple Can’t Approve Google Now App Until It’s Actually Submitted

If Google’s Google Now for iOS app has been submitted to Apple for review, the iPhone maker doesn’t know about it.

Speaking at the Big Tent Summit in India today, Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt suggested Google Now for iPhone and iPad has been submitted to Apple and that its release on the iTunes App store now rests solely in its hands. “You’ll need to discuss that with Apple,” Schmidt said, responding to a question about when Google Now will support iPhone. “Apple has a policy of approving or disapproving apps that are submitted to its store. Some they approve and some of them they don’t.”

Well, turns out there’s nothing much to discuss with Apple. A spokesperson for the company says that contrary to Schmidt’s implication, Google has not submitted a Google Now app for review.

Tough to bring that policy of “approving or disapproving apps” to one that hasn’t been submitted.
