To Do This Weekend: Watch “Star Trek.” All of It.
If you have access to Hulu* and want to do something truly epic this weekend, you might consider mainlining Hulu’s newly posted “Star Trek” archive to relive your favorites of some 700 episodes of sci-fi legend — or if you’re uninitiated, make yourself into an instant Trekkie.
Until the end of March, Hulu is streaming nearly every episode of the show ever, for free.
Want a way to make this a business research project, kinda sorta? Well, we’ve heard Google execs talk about how their ultimate search engine would be a version of the personalized, voice-activated “Star Trek” computer.
My favorite “Star Trek” expert reminds me that the talking computer system was known as “LCARS.”
She elaborated, “In the original series, there are crude voice commands, but starting in “The Next Generation,” it’s much more responsive. And — fun fact! — LCARS is voiced by Majel Barrett-Roddenberry, the wife of the ‘Star Trek’ creator.”
*To watch, you need to live in the U.S. and be using a device that supports Flash.
