Look Ma, No Hands! August “Smart” Lock Takes the Stage at D11. (Video)

What would happen if you wirelessly paired your front door lock with your iPhone the way you’d connect to a Bluetooth speaker?

Enter August, the newest product that helps you control your connected home with the flick of an iPhone app — or in the case of August, without having to touch your phone at all.

This door lock and compatible app was demoed onstage today at the D: All Things Digital conference by tech veteran Jason Johnson and industrial designer Yves Behar.

The demo wasn’t without a glitch, but ultimately we got a glimpse of how a “smart” lock will work.

It costs $199, and is expected to ship around the holiday season this year.
