Today, it’s just another user interface, but one that is becoming increasingly pervasive across the consumer electronics industry. As CEO of Nuance, a company that arguably dominates the market for speech recognition, Paul Ricci is presiding over a UI transition that may well result in speech and natural language processing upending the current computer interface as we know it. In a wide-ranging D11 interview with Walt Mossberg, Ricci discussed speech recognition’s journey from the call center to personal assistant, and what’s next for natural language processing.
