Oculus VR Mourns Loss of Co-Founder Struck and Killed During a Car Chase

An early employee of virtual-reality company Oculus VR was identified Friday as the pedestrian struck and killed during a police chase in Southern California.

Andrew Scott Reisse, 33, was walking in a crosswalk when he was hit on Thursday, according to Los Angeles ABC affiliate KABC.

“Andrew was a brilliant computer graphics engineer, an avid photographer and hiker who loved nature, a true loyal friend, and a founding member of our close-knit Oculus family,” Oculus said in a statement to KABC. “Andrew’s contributions span far and wide in the video game industry. His code is embedded in thousands of games played by millions of people around the world. Words can not express how sorely he will be missed or how deeply our sympathy runs for his family.”

Update: Oculus has posted a testimonial to Reisse on its Web site, remembering their colleague as talented and humble.

“Andrew’s impact on the software and hardware we’ve developed at Oculus is immeasurable,” the company said in the blog post. “Despite all his work, he never bragged or boasted. When he wasn’t programming at the office, he was learning, reading his favorite web site — slashdot.org — or helping other teammates brainstorm and innovate. He believed in what we’re building and always pushed the team to be better than we thought we could be.”
