Facebook Adds Dock Feature in Effort to Make Its Home More Inviting
Facebook on Thursday announced that it has added a new feature designed to make its Facebook Home software more appealing.
The social network is adding a dock to Facebook Home that allows users to more easily access their favorite apps. It’s part of a broader effort by Facebook to retool its Android software.
The new feature comes as part of an update to the Facebook app for Android.
“Early feedback from users focused on a desire for a more robust app launcher and in addition to a dock, Facebook is working on folders and widget support which will come in future updates,” Facebook said in a statement.
At last week’s D11, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg noted that it is early days for Facebook Home.
“I think it will be a long road,” Sandberg said. “[The smartphone is] an incredibly powerful device and social device. We believe that the phone will get reorganized around people — Home is the first iteration of that.”
From its inception, Facebook said Home would get frequent updates. Other features in the app include the ability to change permissions for who can see something already shared, the ability to send multiple photos in a message, and other stability improvements.
