August’s Smart Lock Nabs 26,000 Pre-Orders in Two Months

Consumers are apparently interested in the so-called Internet of Things — or at least opening doors with their smartphones.

A startup called August says its initial product, the “Smart Lock” (unveiled at D11) has attracted some 26,000 reservations in the last two months. According to August CEO, Jason Johnson, the company will start shipping the device later this year and is lining up distribution deals with online retailers, security services and brick and mortar stores.
