Samsung Shows Off Future of Wearables and Phone Displays in Concept Video

While today’s smartphones are a big hunk of glass with a power-hungry display, the future of mobile computing will be lighter, more malleable and, in many cases, worn on our bodies.

At least that’s the vision Samsung is putting forth in a new concept video that Samsung strategy chief Young Sohn showed off on Tuesday at the start of the MobileBeat conference in San Francisco. In the video, a woman is combining her smartphone with a disposable sensor to get health data, and then sharing that with her doctor.

“We think the health area is a really key area of innovation,” said Sohn.

While only about 10 percent of those at the conference were using a wearable device, Sohn said that number is poised to rise sharply as computing gets woven into clothing and integrated into glasses, watches and other products.

Here’s a look at that video:

I think the NSA has a job to do and we need the NSA. But as (physicist) Robert Oppenheimer said, “When you see something that is technically sweet, you go ahead and do it and argue about what to do about it only after you’ve had your technical success. That is the way it was with the atomic bomb.”
