Wireless Alert Jolts New Yorkers
New Yorkers were jolted awake before sunrise Wednesday by an Amber Alert on their smartphones — one of the government’s Wireless Emergency Alerts that are reaching more and more people as they upgrade their devices.
By many accounts, the alert went out shortly before 4 am ET. Some people on Twitter said they received more than one alert, and they came at different times. It’s all likely a formula of device, carrier and cell towers.
