Amazon Web Services Head Chats Up N.Y. Area CIOs
With cloud computing emerging as a viable alternative to building computer systems in-house, CIOs are trying to educate themselves on the pros and cons of entrusting their applications and data to a third-party vendor. Andy Jassy, senior vice president of Amazon.com Inc.’s Web services business, said many CIOs ask him why they should go with his company’s cloud service, rather than building their own.
In a meeting with CIO Journal here Thursday between client calls, Mr. Jassy said there are substantial differences between the cloud computing services Amazon offers, and the do-it-yourself private clouds, or automated and virtualized computer systems that CIOs such as The Gap Inc.’s Tom Keiser and State Street Corp.’s Chris Curran are building.
