Microsoft Investigating What’s Keeping Outlook.com Customers From Getting Email

Microsoft confirmed on Wednesday that it is looking into what is behind an issue that’s keeping some customers from being able to access the Outlook.com Web email service.

“Microsoft is investigating an issue affecting a small number of customers’ access to some Outlook.com and SkyDrive experiences and we are working to restore full access to the services as quickly as possible,” Microsoft said in a statement to AllThingsD. The company didn’t comment further on the number of customers affected or what might be causing the problems.

The company encouraged customers to check the status page on its website for updates.

The service, which left beta in February and has now fully replaced Hotmail, also had some issues back in March.

Update: Microsoft said it has now restored Web access, but said mobile users may still be encountering problems.

“Outlook.com experienced an incident that caused some users not to be able to access their account or share their SkyDrive file,” Microsoft said. “We have restored web access for all users but some people might still see issues with their mobile devices. We are working to restore full mobile access as quickly as possible.”

The company said it doesn’t yet have anything to report as far as the cause of the outage.
