Apple Buys Transit App Maker Embark

Apple’s mapping company binge continues apace this month with yet another acquisition. The company very recently purchased Embark, developer of the popular public transit app, for an undisclosed sum. Apple confirmed the deal, which was first reported by former Wall Street Journal reporter Jessica Lessin, with its boilerplate “we buy smaller technology companies from time to time” comment. Embark is the latest in a string of map-related acquisitions for Apple that includes HopStop and Locationary.
