LG Dives Back Into Tablet Market With Eight-Inch G Pad

Aiming to get ahead of a flurry of announcements expected at next week’s IFA trade show in Berlin, Korea’s LG on Saturday announced details of its LG G Pad 8.3 tablet.

LG has a habit of trying to get a jump on the pack when it comes to announcements, using the days leading up to last year’s Mobile World Congress to announce its products, rather than waiting for the Barcelona event to begin.

As for this G Pad tablet, LG is making much out of the fact that it is the first of the eight-inch tablets to sport a full 1080p HD display (though others are expected to have similar products relatively soon). It also packs a Qualcomm 600 processor, front and rear cameras, 16 gigabytes of memory and Android 4.2.2.

LG isn’t announcing pricing, but said that the tablet will arrive starting in the fourth quarter in North America, Europe and Asia.

Samsung is planning to show off its Galaxy Gear smart watch and Galaxy Note III phablet at an event on Wednesday, while many other electronics makers have introductions planned for next week’s IFA trade show.
