Nexon Invests in Former Zynga COO’s New Studio
Tokyo-based game studio Nexon — best known to some U.S. players as the publisher of the free-to-play MapleStory games — has invested in Shiver Entertainment, a new games studio headed up by ex-Zynga COO and Tiburon Entertainment founder John Schappert, the companies announced today. The amount of the cash equity investment was not disclosed.
Nexon has also nominated its own CFO, Owen Mahoney, to join Shiver’s board. The company has previously invested in two other American studios, SecretNewCo (led by another ex-Zynga, Brian Reynolds) and Rumble Entertainment. Partnering with Miami-based Shiver may aid Nexon’s push into Western markets.
