Dear Kiwis, Lesson of the Day: Never Turn Your Back on Larry Ellison
Oracle Team USA pulled off a pretty epic come-from-behind sailing win today to grab the America’s Cup from Emirates Team New Zealand, after winning eight races in a row.
In other words, never turn your back on billionaire Larry Ellison.
On a stunning day in the San Francisco Bay, the 34th yachting competition was won in a 9-8 victory, after the New Zealand team seemed to have sewn up the race with an 8-1 lead only a week ago.
It did not look like a done deal today, as Oracle begin the race badly and was behind three seconds — an eon in high-performance sailing — on the upwind leg of the contest. In the end, Oracle won by 44 seconds over the Kiwis.
And, at the finish line, there was Ellison and champagne. Of course.
