The Fanfou server is undergoing technical maintenance. Service is expected to resume before dawn on 6 June.

— Message on a Chinese Web site about the site being down as a part of scheduled maintenance coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the events at Tiananmen Square–although it’s not known for certain whether large numbers of Chinese sites have gone offline as a form of protest against the government or as a result of government pressure. Earlier this week, the government blocked access to a number of western sites in what was widely interpreted as an attempt to control the flow of information about Tiananmen Square.
