Oh dear–a PR war with a social networking site? Really?

(How I wish I could say I was surprised.)

In any case, such things are better left to the professionals who make Hollywood movies, opening October 1 at a theater near you.

But here’s 1938 Media’s video interview with Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg–sort of!–to clear it all up (thank you, Loren)–plus a very funny photo of an alleged FacePhone by the most excellent Sean Percival:

There’s been a bit of bloggery agonizing of late about the possibility that no one is listening to the endless stream of sharing via status updates and other social networking tools.

As in, if a check-in falls in the forest, does it make a sound?

It’s a good question to answer, given all the effort being put into the social medium.

And here is a bracing diatribe on the subject by Loren Feldman of 1938 Media, which is well worth a listen:

It was inevitable, I suppose, that the highly stylized trailers for the upcoming movie “The Social Network” would be ripe for mocking.

The full trailer from Sony (SNE) film unit Columbia Pictures, released last week, uses a creepy Vega Choir version of the Radiohead song “Creep,” and has all kinds of dramatic flourishes–making it perfect for spoofs.

Here are three, from: 1938 Media (in which co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg is played by a 2×4 piece of wood); from Australian comic Dan Ilic; and one that’s not exactly a trailer, but is the interview Walt Mossberg and I did at the eighth D: All Things Digital conference with Zuckerberg set to “Creep” (it oddly enough works).

How in the world did BoomTown miss these very funny new puppets from 1938 Media of Google (GOOG) co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin and Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook?

In the first one, below, the search giant twins are channeling the terrific old “Pumping Up with Hans & Franz” television skit on “Saturday Night Live,” while needling Apple (AAPL) CEO Steve Jobs over the Wi-Fi troubles at the Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco earlier this week.

And in the second, Zuckerberg talks privacy as played by a two-by-four with a curly perm, doing a little bit from “Rainman.”

BoomTown is spending the day at Microsoft (MSFT) HQ in Redmond, Wash., interviewing a passel of execs about the Yahoo online advertising and search partnership (videos to come soon!).

But, while here, I have not been able to resist trotting out this very funny puppet video by 1938 Media of sweat-stained Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer gone wild, screaming about how he smoked Yahoo (YHOO) in the deal, to every Softie I see.

Because I am that sensitive.

Finally, the kind of response this whole increasingly silly circus around TechCrunch publishing the Twitter stolen documents deserves.

Funny, rude and pretty much the only good way to excuse it all, via expletives deleted, courtesy of 1938 Media.

Now, BoomTown can go back to real issues, such as obsessing about when the Yahoo (YHOO) deal with Microsoft (MSFT) will drop, if ever!

The ubiquitous puppet interviewer (not) Shel Israel–who BoomTown has definitively determined is powered by the hand of the very funny Loren Feldman of 1938 Media–came to ATD HQ (aka, the cottage behind my house) yesterday for a lovely chat.

In our interview, I revealed that I was indeed the actress who played Princess Leia Organa Solo of Alderaan in “Star Wars” and also, given that the California Supreme Court has recently approved gay marriages, my upcoming nuptials with a certain tech blogger I have written about.

In all seriousness, I really like Feldman’s video work, although it is definitely strongly rendered.

Why? Because it is just the kind of innovative original material that is a key part of creating a whole new genre online.

His use of puppets is clever, but he also does more thoughtful, though still humorous, video essays as himself, which I also think are unique and bracing (that is a polite way of saying he does not hold back much).
