Yahoo Snaps Up Image-Discovery Startup LookFlow

LookFlow, a Mountain View, Calif.-based startup with technology that incorporates artificial intelligence into a platform for image search and discovery, announced today that it had been acquired by Yahoo and will join the Flickr unit. The team will also help Yahoo build a “deep learning group.” Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

GoDaddy Acquires Online Invoicing Firm Ronin

The deal went down in April, but GoDaddy waited until today to announce the acquisition of Ronin, an online invoicing company. GoDaddy is known primarily as a domain registrar and Web hosting company, but has been building a suite of cloud services for small businesses. The Ronin acquisition was its fifth in 15 months, and the technology has been integrated into GoDaddy Online Bookkeeping.

GhostBird Software Lands at Yahoo

Photography app developer GhostBird Software said today it had been acquired by Yahoo for an undisclosed sum and would be bringing its technology to the Flickr team. The company’s iOS apps, KitCam and PhotoForge2, have been pulled from Apple’s App Store, and no further updates are planned.

@Walmart Labs, the tech arm of the retail giant’s e-commerce unit, announced a pair of acquisitions today. Now on board are OneOps, which brings its platform-as-a-service technology, and social-software outfit Tasty Labs, along with its founders, Mozilla vet Nick Nguyen, del.icio.us creator Joshua Schachter and HousingMaps creator Paul Rademacher.

Yahoo said Wednesday it had acquired Jybe, maker of a personalized social recommendation app, and its five-member team, all former Yahoos. Neither the terms of the deal nor the plans to integrate the technology into Yahoo’s platform were disclosed.

Google Sells Motorola Set-Top and Modem Unit to Arris for $2.35 Billion

After shopping it around for a few months, Google has found a buyer for Motorola Home, which makes set-top boxes, cable modems and related equipment. The business, one of the acquired Motorola Mobility assets Google is shedding, will go to Arris, a broadband media tech outfit, for $2.35 billion in cash and stock.

Dell announced today it had reached agreement to acquire Credant Technologies, provider of data encryption and authentication systems. No terms were revealed. Credant’s technology will be added to Dell’s enterprise security offerings.

Confirmed: Google Grabs Meebo

As tipped by Liz Gannes last month, Google has indeed acquired Meebo, which in its current incarnation is making tools that allows users to create interest profiles and publishers to increase user engagement. The price was not revealed, but was reportedly in the $100 million neighborhood. The Meebo team will be folded into the ever-growing Google+ social structure.
