Viral Video: Jen Aniston's Sex Tape (It's a Virus!)

While BoomTown is usually tired of the overexposed Hollywood actress Jennifer Aniston, she is pretty funny in this online commercial for SmartWater, in which she tries make a video that “turns into a virus” by taking advantage of a number of viral Internet video trends. If only her movies were this clever.

Viral Photo: Meryl Streep as "The Iron Lady"

While BoomTown usually does a video here, this photo that was just released of actress Meryl Streep in the guise of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher is freaky. As in freaky accurate.

Paula Abdul Adds Web Entrepreneur To Hollywood Hats

Very few entertainers have a better understanding of the grueling and sometimes ruthless nature of the audition process than Paula Abdul. During the early part of her career in the 1980s she shuttled from one unsuccessful casting call to the next, often waiting hours in line like she did in her first audition with “The Gong Show,” only to get rejected for being too short.

VC Ben Horowitz Takes Aim at HP Critics (Are You Listening, Larry and Jack?)

Today, in a sharply worded post titled “In Defense of Standards, Ethics, and Honest Financial Reporting at Hewlett-Packard,” prominent venture capitalist Ben Horowitz took to his blog to shoot back at the plethora of critics of the Hewlett-Packard board for their conduct related to the controversial jettisoning of CEO Mark Hurd. Let us just say, the longtime business partner of HP board member Marc Andreessen did not mince words.

In Defense of Standards, Ethics, and Honest Financial Reporting at Hewlett-Packard

Recently, my old company Hewlett-Packard has been in the news–and not in a good way. I’ve been watching the coverage from the sidelines up to this point, but felt increasingly compelled to join the conversation and share my point of view. So here goes.

Viral Video: Snooki Gets Taiwanesed Too!

Last week, it was inebriated actress Lindsay Lohan–and, this week, it is falling-down-drunk reality show star Snooki Polizzi. Getting the wacky CGI treatment, that is, from Taiwanese “news” outfit Next Media Animation. Depicting the “Jersey Shore” potty-mouthed princess pretty accurately–making out, passing out and getting smacked–I am starting to think these videos are the work of geniuses.

The HP Wink-Wink Nudge-Nudge Scandal's Real Victims: The Shareholders

Of course, because Silicon Valley is possibly the least sexy of places, any whiff of a scandal involving a powerful CEO and a blonde model/actress/cougar/contractor is going to get the lion’s share of the attention in the coverage. Thus, the resignation Friday of Hewlett-Packard head Mark Hurd and the private settlement with consultant Jodie Fisher have morphed into a juicy summer potboiler. Today, when the markets open, we’ll see if any of it matters to Wall Street or if investors have moved on to trying to determine the next moves for the tech giant and its leadership.

Viral Video: Lindsay Lohan Gets Taiwanesed

BoomTown is back from the woods of rural New York and was thrilled to find this waiting for me: Lindsay Lohan getting the wacky CGI treatment by Taiwanese “news” outfit Next Media Animation. Lohan is out of jail, after 13 days of incarceration, and is now in rehab–all of which is covered here, along with other examples of the unstable actress’s greatest hits.

Farrah Fawcett Also Remembered on the Web

While she had almost nothing to do with the Internet, the Web still has a lot to do with Farrah Fawcett, especially today after the iconic Hollywood actress and model died after a long and well-documented battle with cancer. Still, the massive online reaction to a more sudden and unexpected celebrity death yesterday–pop legend Michael Jackson, who was 50–pretty much drowned out Fawcett’s passing at 62 years old. That’s too bad, since she was a genuine cultural phenom–and here is an online video to remind us of that.
