Priceline Books AOL’s Tim Armstrong Into the Boardroom

Online travel outfit Priceline announced today it was adding AOL CEO Tim Armstrong to its board of directors, citing “his deep experience with consumer-facing Internet businesses, Web marketing and search.”

Patch Names Steven Kalin President and COO

Patch, AOL’s local news platform, now has a president and COO, and it’s Steven Kalin, who previously held the COO position at radio syndication giant Westwood One and health and fitness publisher Rodale. He’ll report to Jon Brod, Patch’s CEO and co-founder.

AOL Shares Patent Windfall With a $400M Buyback

As tipped by Kara Swisher over the weekend, AOL said today it will buy back $400 million worth of its shares as the first step in passing out the proceeds of its $1.1 billion patent sale to Microsoft. Shareholders will have until Aug. 2 to tender shares (currently trading at about $27.50) at a price between $27 and $30.

AOL Brings Balis Back to Lead Ad Sales Strategy

AOL announced today that Janet Balis is returning to the company as head of sales strategy, marketing and partnerships for AOL Advertising. Balis was SVP for sales development at AOL from 2004 to 2007 and in the interim served as president of Digital Media Strategies and then as executive vice president for media sales and marketing for Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia.
