Amazon Goes Shopping, Comes Home With Woot

Woot.com, the commerce site that made its name featuring one big deal a day, announced today (in entertaining fashion) that it is being acquired by Amazon.com, where, like Zappos and Audible, it will continue to operate as an autonomous subsidiary. Amazon invested $4 million in Woot in 2008. Details of the deal were not announced.

Shut Up, Kindle

Rather than argue with the Authors Guild over the text-to-speech feature of its new Kindle 2 e-book reader, Amazon is modifying the device’s software to make it optional. Authors and publishers will now be able to decide if they want the function enabled or not on titles for which they own the rights.
