With all the noisy swirl around Yahoo of late–from its executive turmoil to its flat growth to its dashed partnerships in Asia to its brash CEO–its board has been unusually quiet of late.

Yahoo is close to selling its Zimbra unit to VMware, according to several sources close to the situation.
Sources said the deal could be announced soon, but the price for the open-source email unit was still unclear.
One source noted that the reason that VMware was interested in nabbing Zimbra was that its execs want to expand “up the stack” from the software company’s position in virtualization.

News, photos and other content about the pro golfer, whose personal life has become tabloid fodder since his car accident and cryptic apologies, are contributing to Yahoo’s sports section, as well as news, gossip and the front page, Ms. Bartz said.

After her two predecessors failed in recent years to counter Google’s conquest of Yahoo!’s once-dominant position in Internet search, or to win over investors, new CEO Bartz brings strong software-engineering and management skills to the job. At her previous post atop Autodesk, she remade the business, sharply boosting margins, earnings and revenues and increasing the share price nearly tenfold.
