Google Gives Gingerbread for the Holidays

The rumored new Gingerbread-based Nexus phone from Google is rumor no more. In a blog post on Monday, Google announced the Nexus S, a phone co-developed by Samsung and Google. While Google is no longer trying to go it alone as it tried initially with the Nexus One, the company said that the phone is designed “to highlight the latest advancements of the Android platform.” Among new features is a new kind of communications technology that allows for interacting with specially tagged objects.

Best Buy Up on Deal to Sell iPhone; Radio Shack Slips

Best Buy (BBY) shares are on the rise this morning on news that the company’s Best Buy Mobile stores will carry the Apple (AAPL) iPhone starting Sept. 7. Pricing will be the same as it is through Apple and AT&T (T) stores: $199 for the 8GB model and $299 for 16GB, with a two-year AT&T service contract. Best Buy stores already sell iPods and Macs.
