I found one of the more interesting wireless devices not on the show floor, but on the casino floor at the Venetian. Called the Pocket Casino, it’s a handheld device a bit bigger than a smartphone that can be used for real gambling–poker, blackjack, slots, even football. $40 worth of real gambling ensued.

Yahoo Is Teed Up to Buy a Sports Site–BoomTown Is Betting on Citizen Sports for the Score!

According to numerous sources inside and outside the company, Yahoo is poised to slam dunk–I apologize, but sports puns are so easy–an acquisition of an online sports site this week. And, predicted several of those sources, it is likely to be San Francisco-based Citizen Sports, a maker of popular apps and games that allow fans to interact on the Apple iPhone and Facebook.

Success stories about iPhone app developers are well documented, but one game maker says it has gotten better results in an unlikely place: Palm’s App Catalog for its Pre and Pixi smartphone devices. Palm, which has been trying to turn itself around, created a stir last month when it admitted that its phones weren’t selling as well as it had expected. Palm warned that its revenues for the year would be “well below” forecasts.

Since I posted an interview with Social Gaming Network’s Shervin Pishevar today on the announcement of his $15 million funding, it seems only sporting to post this lively video interview I also did with his main competitor, Mark Pincus of Zynga, recently too. Zynga, named after Pincus’s dog, is one of the two main social-gaming networks that are competing for audience by offering highly interactive games of all kinds. Its aim is to be more engaging and create a series of addictive games that users will return to again and again.
