News ByteFrank & Oak, an online membership site for men that offers a selection of clothes every month, has raised $5 million. The first round was led by Lightbank, the VC firm started by Groupon co-founders Eric Lefkofsky and Brad Keywell. Other investors include BDM, Rho Ventures Canada and Real Ventures. The business derives from a now-defunct company called Modasuite, which was started two years ago and provided custom clothing for men.
News ByteLifecrowd has raised $5 million in a first round of funding to build a site where users can discover social activities, ranging from wine tastings to dodgeball. Participating investors include Lightbank (started by Groupon founders Eric Lefkosky and Brad Keywell), Bullpen Capital, Baroda Ventures, Prism VentureWorks and MuckerLab, an accelerator program. The site is live in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Orange County and San Diego.
Margo Georgiadis, VP of Global Sales Operations at Google, will be COO of Groupon, Google confirmed. She is currently located in Chicago, where the social buying site is headquartered. Besides COO, BoomTown will officially bestow the title of “Chief Cat Wrangler” on her in recognition of the massive organizational job ahead of her at the notoriously chaotic start-up.
